Celeron 4xx processors on core Conroe- L stepping A1 were announced at the beginning of June, and since they began to enter in sale. Let us note that we already reviewed those processor : Conroe-l celeron 440 Review .

Before talking about they overclock potential , let is recall the example of engineering model Conroe- L stepping A0 , witch was overclocked to frequency 5.1 GHz with liquid nitrogen. High multiplier is necessary for successful overclock of Conroe- L processors , since the overclock limit on system bus (FSB wall) is low . In the case (with overclock to 5.1 GHz ), was used the engineering model with multiplier 14x, which corresponds to the default frequency 2.8 GHz. It is clear that processors Conroe- L will not reach such default frequencies this year.

The TDP value of celeron 4xx processors is 65 W, actually they do not heat up a lot even with some overclock. So , using this cooler , one member in the forum xtremeSystems was able to overclock the processor celeron 420 (1.6 GHz) to 3300 MHz with default vcore. This corresponds to frequency increase by 106%:

This processor cost less than $50 , and over 100% frequency increase is already pretty good result for overclockers. The speed level of processor celeron 430 (1.8 GHz) at 3000 MHz frequency in comparison with the overclocked to 3160 MHz processor athlon 64 FX-57 can be checked here. In some tests celeron 430 was even faster than AMD processor.

Thus, According to some statistic , the processors series celeron 4xx stepping A1 will be frequently limited to 400 MHz (system bus). Taking in account the small price difference between this family models , it has sense to select elder processors for overclock : their higher multiplier will allow to reach the highest overclock possible.....
